Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year at Ramona Elementary where we strive for academic excellence!
By now, all parents (3rd-6th grade) should have received a copy of the Spring 2017 Smarter Balance Results. I am happy to announce continued growth in the area of mathematics. We will continue our work with mathematics this year, specifically with Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). Our teachers participated in a 4 Day Summer Institute and an additional 2 Day PD through UCLA Center X on learning CGI methodology and instructional practices. I am confident that students will gain a better conceptual understanding of mathematics, and will become proficient problem solvers.
We are entering our second year implementing the District's Early Language and Literacy Program (ELLP), a data driven instructional approach designed to accelerate student achievement in English Language Arts in grades TK through 2nd. Students receive targeted instruction in the California English Language Arts standards for Foundational Skills, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.
Ramona Elementary School also has a strong focus on Designated and Integrated English Language Development (ELD) instruction. We are fortunate to have a District Title III Coach assigned to work with our teachers on how to deliver Designated and Integrated ELD instruction to support our English learner students and increase our Reclassification rates.
I look forward to working collaboratively with parents, guardians, and community members throughout the year to support student achievement. Please visit our school's Parent Center in Room 47 if you are interested in being a Parent Volunteer.
